Fishing rod…check, hat….check, boat...wait, has anyone booked the boat? Ok, so you booked the boat and it seems like you have everything you need for your offshore adventure, but what if you still need some last minute equipment or supplies? Reel needs to be replaced? Can’t find the sunblock? Fortunately, Puerto Rico has a variety of specialized fishing stores that carry all of the necessary equipment from the simple to the sublime.

Mike Benitez Marine Store at Club Náutico de San Juan provides a wealth of boating and fishing accessories including supplies, fittings, hoses, glues, varnish, wax, lures, fishing reels, poles and harnesses, lines, hooks, swivels, soap, food and refreshments. Anything you need for today’s trip. Mike’s store has been around for years.

Marine Dream on Paseo Covadonga behind the Capital (west of Club Náutico de San Juan) has been in operation for more than 50 years. Catering to both offshore and light tackle fishing, the marine supply store carries nautical charts for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands as well as boat accessories such as fishing lines, anchor lines, fenders, bumpers, paint, snorkel shop, masks, AFCO shorts, coolers and hats.

Captain Mike’s Sport Fishing Center, located at the San Juan Bay Marina, (just across the bridge from Club Náutico de San Juan to the south) has all the essentials including rods, reels, poles, special order poles and gear, lines for all kinds of fishing, Guy Harvey clothes and of course last minute necessities: water, sunblock and the like.

Sunday Fishing Corp., located in Puerto Nuevo, specializes in big game offshore fishing tackle and accessories: exclusive reel lines (Shimano, Penn, and Accurate) as well as poles and pole repairs, lines, harnesses, hooks, lures and clothes.

The Tackle Box is a fishing equipment store featuring both inshore fishing supplies (poles, lines, lures and some hand tools) and offshore fishing equipment (poles, reels, lines, bait, lures). This friendly, personalized store has an extensive selection of well known brands such as Shimano, Afco, Crowder, Mustad and Sufix. They are located in Ocean Park.

West Marine has two locations in Puerto Rico: one store near Plaza Las Americas, and the other in Puerto Rico’s boating capital of Fajardo (in the East). The stores feature a very large range of products including anchors and anchor lines, ropes, dock bumpers, boat care products, clothing, safety equipment, fishing equipment (including Penn and Shimano), fish finders, GPS systems and radars.

Also in Fajardo is the Skipper Shop which can supply your boating and fishing supplies including Harken sailing equipment, sail harnesses, winches, marine accessories (ropes, bumpers, water pumps, marine charts) and AB inflatables. It is located near the Puerto Chico Marina and Villa Marina.

If you happen to be in Arecibo (in the Northwest), visit the Arecibo Fishing Shop. It is known as “La Casa Del Pescador,” the home of the fishermen.

For eight years, Popa Marina in Cabo Rojo has been servicing fishing enthusiasts of the west and southwest regions.
