Driving to Fajardo

Day trip to Fajardo:
Most of the Sailing & Watersports operations in Fajardo will pick you up from your hotel in the major tourist areas, take you to Fajardo and return you to your hotel at day’s end. If you are taking advantage of their transportation, be ready to go when they arrive or cancel 24 hours beforehand. If you drive yourself, you might find these instructions useful:

Starting at the San Juan International Airport (Rt 26 & Rt 17): You go south on Rt 26 (staying in the left 2 lanes) until it turns into Rt 66. Stay on Rt 66 (the new toll road - $1.50 each way) to the end at Rt 3. Turn right on Rt 3 until you get to the first light in Fajardo with a Gulf gas station in front of you on your left. From the International Airport to this corner is 28.8 miles and about 45 minutes.

To Reach Villa Marina: Turn left at the Gulf station, go 3 stoplights and turn left again (there is a Burger King and Churches Chicken on your left just before this light). Then proceed to the next light and turn right (there is a farmacia on the corner). Follow this road to the end and turn left at the stop sign. Go to the first street and turn right in front of the Villa Marina Shopping Center. Go down the street and turn left behind the shopping center. Park on the street near the gated entrance to the marina (during the week they may let you park in the marina). This is 2.6 miles and about 8 minutes from the Gulf station.

To Reach the Ferry: Turn left at the Gulf station, go through 4 stoplights, keep left where the road splits and then turn left at the stop sign. Stay on this road until you reach the stop sign at the water (there is longterm parking just before you reach the water). Turn left and the ferry building is in front of you. Tickets are purchased across from the ferry building.

To Reach Puerto Del Rey: Don’t turn at the Gulf station. Stay on Rt 3 and go all the way through Fajardo until the road turns into Rt 53 (2.7 miles – no toll). Take the first exit (it is marked Puerto Del Rey). Go under the highway, through 2 stoplights and you will find the entrance to Puerto Del Rey on your left. The way to the boats is clearly marked and there is plenty of parking at the entrance and near the boats. The entrance is 5.2 miles and about 10 minutes from the Gulf station.

Keep in mind: The driving times are approximate and can vary greatly based on traffic conditions. Call ahead for your boat’s departure time. Most boats leave promptly at 10am and you are expected to be there between 9am and 9:15am. If you are not on time, some of the boats do not wait.
