- The only tropical rain forest in the US Forest Service System. There is an extensive trail system (most trails start along PR 191, between Km 8.6 and 13.4). El Portal is the main visitor center. It is open daily (9am-5pm), and features 3 interpretive pavilions, theater, bookstore and a nature trail. La Mina waterfall can be reached using Big Tree Trail (Km.10.4) or La Mina Trail (Km.12.2). Yokahu Tower and La Coca Falls are must-see sites. The recreation areas have picnic shelters, restrooms and walking trails. Guided tours are available. El Yunque Peak provides a spectacular view of the Forest and the eastern shoreline of the Island.
